If you are suffering from gout then going to the doctor would probably be your first though when it comes to searching for gout attack treatment. Of course this will usually end up with you taking an injection of corticosteroids and getting a prescription of alopurinol tablets. They will probably prescribe a number of different drugs to help combat the pain and to also reduce the levels of uric acid in you body. Some people are having some good results with this kind of treatment, but even the doctors will tell you that some changes in your diet can make an even bigger difference when it comes gout.
Gout Attack Treatment
One of the new gout attack treatment options would be to start including black cherry juice into your daily routine. A single glass of this everyday has been shown to reduce the levels of uric acid in our system. The high levels of uric acid are what cause the gout flare-ups in the first place. Other red berries, like strawberries and other cherries, can also have the same affect to a lesser degree. When considering these other berries go with the frozen or fresh options.
Other gout attack treatment options would be to consume higher quantities of Vitamin C. This has also been shown to reduce the levels of acid in the system. They are actually suggest consuming about one thousand five hundred milligrams of the vitamin while you are suffering through a gout attack, and consuming about a thousand milligrams of it while you are not suffering would be good at maintaining the lower levels to prevent another attack from happening. Now the best source for getting Vitamin C would be citrus fruits but those are hard to measure in milligrams. Other sources would be some of the vegetables, but those can actually raise the levels because of the types of proteins they contain.
Using baking soda is another one of the gout attack treatment options that people have been having some success with. For whatever reason the baking soda reduces the intensity of the flare-ups and will usually start working within a couple of hours instead of days with the black cherry juice or Vitamin C treatment. You can use a half teaspoon in a glass of water in the morning when you wake up, again at lunch, and then before you go to bed. There is a recommended maximum of three teaspoons a day, but you should see results in one to two hours after you start taking it. This is not something you should do when you are not suffering from a gout attack though.
