Weight Loss and Arthritis

A light body is easy on your bones.

Arthritis is a disease of the bones. The bone structure is responsible for holding up the rest of the body. If you keep piling on the pounds, the stress on the bone structure will become unbearable. That is why your doctors will advise you that it is in your best interests to cut down on the weight. This is not something that is outside the realms of possibility if you take a good diet and practice some physical activity on a regular basis. Do not go crazy with the dieting or else you might have another serious problem in the form of anorexia. The drugs for osteoporosis might mean that you need to have a good diet in order to allow them to work correctly.

Therefore you will not be on your own in terms of managing the condition. You certainly need to tell your boss so that they can make reasonable adjustment to the work place. They will also understand if you have to take time off work in order to attend a doctor's appointment. Even if you already have osteoporosis there is nothing to say that you cannot develop gout. Therefore you should not let the body go in the belief that the worst is over.

There have been many books written about the subject of weight loss. The reality is that this is one of the most difficult things to achieve on a consistent basis. First of all you need to take a gradual approach. Keep reducing your portion sizes until you feel that you are on the right level. If you have to hide your meals from anyone then there is something wrong. Burgers are not a good friend at this time. Citrus fruits as well as assorted green vegetables are a must for the arthritis patient.

The use of dietary supplements is somewhat controversial. In some literature these supplements are recommended in addition to natural foods. Other writers argue that you have to stick to the natural foods. You need to make the best use of your resources at the time. The Mediterranean diet is excellent but some of the ingredients can be quite expensive. Not everyone can live on seared tuna and salads of "Wagyu beef".
